Friday Night Openings - kaNO's "Bodega' @ MPH

Last night, My Plastic Heart hosted the launch of kaNO's latest designer vinyl toy, Bodega. The character is based on the small juice bottle drinks that were widely available at the corner bodegas. I personally like the use of transparency in this new character, along with the proportion of the spray cap serving as the character's head. This run is limited to 300, so be sure to visit MPH in person or online to pick one up. More pics from the opening here on my Flickr.

Sketchbot Plushform featured on Toycyte and ToysREvil

Two of my favourite daily visits, Toycyte and ToysREvil, picked up my Plushform post. It's a great honor to be paired with my buddy kaNO. Thanks Jeremy and Andy!

Sketchbot Custom Plush in Plushform Exhibit and Launch Party @ Rotofugi, June 27th

I'm taking a cue from kaNO and posting a peak of my custom Plushform piece for the upcoming Custom Exhibit and Launch Party to be held at the Rotofugi design store and gallery. This is my second platform custom. Incidentally, kaNO's Moneygrip was my first.

The show opens next Friday, June 27th, in Chicago. As you can see from the announcement, there are quite a few big names participating. I was a late invite (hence, not on the flyer) and am excited to be included with such an esteemed group of peers. Be sure to check out the Shawnimals site for more plush goodness, including the original Ninja plushie!

Custom Toy Lab

My first ever custom toy was accepted over at Custom Toy Lab this afternoon. Check out their great repository of all things custom!

New York Comic Con, Day 1

Only there half a day and we're already wiped out! This year looks to be even better than last year. I just got that vibe when we entered Javitz Center - there definitely seems to be genuine interest this year.

Hit a few of the main toy booths, primarily MPH and Toy Qube for a few signings (MAD, Tokidoki) and also got kidlew, kaNO, Andrew Bell, and Lou Pimentel to tag my sketchbook.

I also drew my first official tag in Saki-Waki's sketchbook. Quite a few people recognized my sketchbot character from this blog and my Flickr page, so that was a pleasant surprise.

The sketchbot swag we handed out is also receiving positive reactions. It's a pleasure to give something tangible to the fans. I'd like to invite everyone to check back often for progress on sketchbot's journey from initial design stage to a fully realized vinyl toy.

Jonlyn and I did catch one panel at the end of the evening - Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz were on hand for an entertaining Q&A after premiering the new X-Files movie trailer!

Hit my Flickr stream for plenty more pics. More posts coming Sat and Sun nights!

'Get a Grip' Custom Show Opening Night @ MyPlasticHeart

This past Friday, January 25th, saw the opening of KaNO's 'Get A Grip' Moneygrip Custom show at My Plastic Heart NYC. The turnout was great, with a jam-packed crowd braving the cold to view the 46 custom Moneygrip characters on display. In addition to finally meeting KaNO for the first time, I was introduced to Jester and his son Jace (in from Houston, TX), Kelly Denato, Keith Poon (owner of the excellent Toy Qube), Pon, and Kid Lew. My pictures from opening night and all the entries are now up on my Flickr page.

'Get a Grip' DIY Show @ MyPlasticHeart

I've been selected to participate in the upcoming MoneyGrip custom DIY show that will take place in January '08 at MyPlasticHeart in the East Village, NYC. The creator of this character is the amazing kaNO. This is my first ever DIY show, so i'm extra excited to be invited. Thanks Vincent!
